— Tourism planning and residential renovation for Louna village —
After decades of developing the urban planning, China is transferring its concentration from the urban development to the rural revival, for bridging economical and living condition gaps between them. Residential renovation for Louna Village, as one of such rural revitalization programs, aims to provide travel services and facilities for attracting tourists, but also brings advanced building materials and technologies to this rural area.
— tourism planning —
Xinzhai sub-village, as one of 13 sub-villages of Louna village, has the most abundant and gorgeous sceneries. To fully show its distinguishing highlights, our team firstly sketched a tourism plan, as a preparation for the village's future development. Besides, it's also a basis for us better linking buildings' functions with tourists' needs.
Part I: route planning (Xu Jing & Christina Deng
Firstly, we sketched several renderings for building renovations and scenic spot plannings, and then drafted two tourist routes as a standard two-day trip in Xinzhai sub-village. For day one, tourists could visit all main scenic spots. And for day two, tourists would enjoy 25-kilometer hiking with gorgeous canyon sceneries.
Part II: wooden bower design (Xu Jing & Qi Liu)
Using local bamboo, we designed a wooden bower with the simplest beam-string structure, which will serve as a resting place for tourists.
— Residential Renovation (Tourist Information Center & Bed and Breakfast — Xu Jing) —
Residential renovation is taken apart into three design tasks, which include tourist information center and B&B, Mr.zhao restaurant, and solar school. I mainly took in charge of the tourist information center and B&B.
Entrance to Xinzhai sub-village
We chose this site to renovate the residential house into the tourist information center due to its excellent location. Firstly, it's nearby the entrance to the Xinzhai sub-village and the road to the next sub-village, which is also conducive to the future travel bus planning.
Unoccupied Field
Secondly, the entrance used to be an important social place for villagers. We decided to move the original social place to the nearby unoccupied field and to offer an indoor space for villagers in the tourist information center as well.
Vegetable Plots
At last, there are a large number of vegetable plots and large areas of woodland on the north side of the target site. Therefore, this place can be used as a parking lot as well as a viewing platform.
Original Status of the Residential House
Public Spaces Design
outdoor social space
Moving the former social place, located at the sides of the main road, to the nearby unoccupied field ensures the safety of the villagers.
Bus station
Building a bus station next to the road to the Nawang village benefits the future bus route design. Use local bamboo as basic materials to build the station.
B&B Entrance Design
Transparency
Transforming the former stone-wall entrance into a glass box connects the courtyard with the outside sceneries.
New materials
We brought the glass walls with steel frames into the village for delivering new possibilities for the rural residential houses.
Roof Repair
structure repair
The original flat roof had collapsed, so we retained some part of stone walls and replaced the wooden roof structure into steel one.
Rooftop Garden and Pond
Incorporating the local traditional rooftop pond and a range of plants, I designed a rooftop garden above the dining area. Not only enabling the house host to keep raising fishes, but also cooling the roof during the summer.
facade restoration
retaining stone walls
Apart from retaining part of the stone walls, I utilized the abandoned old roof tiles as hollow walls and combined them with the stone ones.
Utilizing steel frames
Steel frames are used to insert glass windows, bringing the sunlight into the inner space of the residential house.
